While living in Korea, I have always felt I had to strictly keep the rules of society. When a person doesn’t follow the rules there seems to be so many consequences that we have to pay.
But I am a human being!
In my need to express myself, as a human, I need room to be imperfect. It has been very hard to find that place. So I sat before my paper with a brush in my hand, and I wanted to break every Ink Painting rule in the world. I found I wanted to break free. I’m not sure I innovated so radically, but I certainly felt some relief in allowing myself to do as I pleased, rather than keeping to traditional expectations of how to paint.
I hope viewers of these ink works may also feel a freedom in their spirit as they engage with the images. Let them also find the space to be humans.
